Alejandro VALVERDE was given a 2 year suspension from the Italian anti-doping federation on 11 May 2009, for his connections to Operacion Puerto. This means that he is not allowed to race in Italy until May 2011.
On 31 May 2010, the UCI decided on a worldwide suspension starting backward as of 1 Jan 2010, until 31 Dec 2011.  All results from Valverde during 2010, including his wins in Tour Mediterranée and Tour de Romandie have been stripped.
