On 18 June 2009, the UCI accused Ricardo SERRANO of apparent violation of the Anti-Doping Rules on the basis of the information provided by the blood profile in his biological passport.
In July was revealed, that Serrano had tested positive for CERA in the Philadelphia Championships on 7 June and in the Tour de Suisse on 13 June 2009. In June 2010 he was suspended for 2 years by the Spanish federation, until 18 June 2011.
