Danilo DI LUCA was involved in the Oil for Drug-case in 2004. In October 2007, he was suspended for 3 months by the Italian federation, until January 16, 2008.
In July 2009, the UCI revealed that Di Luca tested positive twice for CERA in the Giro d'Italia of 2009, on 20 and 28 May. In February 2010, Di Luca was suspended for 2 years by the Italian federation, until 21 July 2011. Di Luca's ban was reduced to 1 year ans 3 months after collaboration with the drug trafficking police, until 14 October 2010.
Just before the start of the Giro d'Italia of 2013, Di Luca tested positive again on EPO. In December 2013 he was suspended for life by the Italian federation.
